Yet, the oddsmaker has San Antonio favored by more than four points even though the Spurs are down 3-1 in the series and off an all-time choke job having blown a 29-point lead in Wednesday's Game 4.
Is the oddsmaker crazy? He obviously believes the Spurs, who are in must-win mode facing elimination and being home, are the right side.
I am going to side with the oddsmaker here. San Antonio is 14-2 SU and ATS (87.5 percent) in its next game following a loss since January. The Spurs actually could have already swept the series. That is how close they have been. San Antonio led New York by 14 points in the second half in Game 1 and were beating the Knicks with less than a minute left in Game 2. The Spurs did beat the Knicks in Game 3 and then had their epic collapse on the road in Game 4. I believe the Spurs have learned a hard, humiliating lesson about not blowing a lead anymore. I expect they will have a killer instinct in this must-win home game, while the Knicks still might be celebrating the greatest comeback in NBA playoff history.
Victor Wembanyama gives San Antonio the best player on the floor and he is likely to get the calls playing at home.
Saskatchewan defeated British Columbia, 24-21, in the Division Finals last year. The total went Under.
Since then there have been developments that should lead to an Over in this early season rematch.
One of these is a new automatic 35-second play clock in the CFL this season. This has led to more plays and the results were evident in last week's opening games. There were at least 50 points scored in all three opening week games with the Over going 2-0-1.
Not only does this game feature two of the top quarterbacks in the league, Nathan Rourke of the Lions and Trevor Harris of Saskatchewan, but each team's defense has early question marks.
This is the first game for the Roughriders. Their defense is missing four starters from last year. Their front seven have been re-tooled. They will be going against Rourke, who probably is the best quarterback in the league. Rourke is backed by a strong offensive line, a good running back in James Butler and a lot of speed at wide receiver.
The Roughriders have much of their offensive firepower back. Harris should be able to exploit a BC secondary that is breaking in multiple new players.
