The Angle(s): The Florida State Seminoles hung 112 points on an overmatched Florida A&M squad in Monday's opener, and that eye-popping score is likely inflating this total. FSU actually started that game ice cold before the Rattlers wilted, and this is a roster still sorting itself out with 13 newcomers, including a heavy freshman rotation.
The Troy Trojans should have no interest in a shootout. Troy managed just 60 points and shot 34.4 percent in its home loss to UMass, and first-year head coach Adam Howard is working with 12 newcomers and only three returners. Facing an FSU defense that led the ACC in forced turnovers last season, I expect Troy to shorten the game and grind this one under the number.
The Bet: Under (3%).
MAGIC MIKE'S CBB BOOKIE BLA$TER
The Angle(s): The Xavier Musketeers opened with a 45-point demolition of Mount St. Mary's, and the market is reacting by inflating this number against a much tougher Eastern Michigan Eagles squad. Note that Xavier is coming off a losing season that included a 6-14 Big East mark. I expect EMU to keep this much tighter than the number suggests.
The Bet: Eastern Michigan ATS (3%).
4% CBB TOP PLAY of the Day
The Angle(s): The Ohio State Buckeyes have won the six previous meetings by an average of nearly 33 points. That lopsided history is baked into this number, which looks inflated against a rebuilt Youngstown State Penguins squad. YSU reloaded with eight transfers and opened the season by winning at St. Bonaventure.
Ohio State's defense, meanwhile, raised red flags in Monday's opener, giving up 60 second-half points to BYU in a 94-83 loss. I expect the Penguins to hang around and stay inside this number.
The Bet: Youngstown State ATS (4%).
4% NBA TOP PLAY of the Day
The Angle(s): The Oklahoma City Thunder are running out of bodies. Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace and Chet Holmgren are all sidelined, leaving Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to shoulder a massive load after back-to-back 40-point nights against Cleveland. Friday is also OKC's third game in five nights, with Washington waiting at home tomorrow on the second half of a back-to-back.
The Memphis Grizzlies rank among the league's best in both offensive and defensive rating, lead the NBA in three-point percentage and have covered in six of eight games. Memphis should come out hungry to snap a two-game skid at home. I'll take the points with the healthier side.
