Football Betting – Texas Longhorns at Baylor Bears
November 14, 2009
It’s the second-ranked Texas Longhorns playing at the Baylor Bears on Saturday, November 14 at 12:00 PM EST. The latest football odds show that Texas is a 24-point favorite and if you want to get in on the football betting action this weekend, we recommend you take a look at the $500 in FREE bonus money offered to our readers by BetUS!
For the Longhorns, their success this season is a credit to both their very balanced offense and very talented defense as they are currently ranked third in college football, averaging 41 points a game, and also 16th in passing with 216 yards per contest. Their offense is led by senior Heisman Trophy award candidate, Colt McCoy. On the year, McCoy has thrown for 2,447 yards and 17 touchdowns. His top receiving target, is also the top pass catcher in the entire Big XII, Jordan Shipley. Shipley’s 75 catches is second in all of college football, and his 1050 yards is ranked fourth. He had his best game of the season last Saturday, grabbing 11 balls for 273 yards and a touchdown.
However, as much credit as Texas gets on the offensive side of the football, it has been at the expense of an underrated defense. Currently, the Longhorns boast a group that allows only 231 yards per contest, which is ranked first in all of college football, and the 56 yards allowed on the ground, is also the top ranked rushing defense. Sergio Kindle, Lamarr Houston and Rodderick Muckleroy will all be playing on Sunday’s in the NFL in the near future.
As for the Baylor Bears, they simply haven’t been the same since the loss of superstar quarterback Robert Griffin in their fourth game of the season. However to their credit they’ve continued to fight, even staging a shocking upset last Saturday at Missouri. It was the Bears first Big XII road victory in 14 games.
Offensively, this group is led by Nick Florence, who’s been forced into action for the injured Griffin. To his credit, he has thrown for over 1300 yards and five touchdowns in his short time on the field. His top receiver is sophomore Kendall Wright, who like Shipley had his best game of the 2009 season a week ago. Wright has 50 receptions on the year, 10 coming against Missouri a week ago.
Make no mistake about it, these aren’t your father’s Baylor Bears. They’re athletic and talented at the skilled positions. Unfortunately, they’ll be catching the wrong team on the wrong day Saturday, when they face Texas.
The Longhorns are inching toward the finish line, and can see a National Championship game appearance in their sights. Although Baylor is better than most realize, Texas won’t allow their offense to get going, and should run away with this one by the end.
