Texas A&M at Oklahoma Football Picks

November 14, 2009

Yet again Steve Merril took down the football spreads on the game between Texas A&M at Oklahoma.  If you didn’t win this weekend with your football wagering then maybe you should think about getting some help from one of our top football handicappers.  Also, don’t miss the great deal going on at BetUS where they offer our readers a $500 signup bonus!

Oklahoma is just 5-4 this year; a far cry from playing in the BCS title game a season ago.  Things started off badly for the Sooners as they not only lost their opening game against BYU, but also lost quarterback Sam Bradford for the season.  Although he did return for another game, he simply was not the same and actually re-injured his shoulder causing him to miss the rest of the season.

The Sooners enter this game off a 10-3 loss at Nebraska.  But that was a misleading loss as Oklahoma actually out-yarded Nebraska 325-180 in that game.  Their 5 turnovers did them in, and off that ugly offensive performance, the Sooners are likely to explode in this game tonight.  And they get the perfect opponent to do just that.

Texas A&M can only do one thing to win games, and that is to try and out-score their opponent.  But they’ll be up against it here facing an Oklahoma defense that is one of the best in college football.  The Sooners only allow 12 points per game on 266 yards of offense per game (versus teams that average 28 ppg on 359 ypg).  In their 4 home games, Oklahoma has allowed a total of 37 points while pitching two shutouts.  The Aggies have yet to face a strong defense this season, so they are in for a long night in Norman.

Defensively, A&M is playing below average football.  They allow 31 points per game on over 400 yards of offense per game (versus teams that average 28 ppg on 387 ypg).  Their secondary has been awful while allowing 62.5% completions, 249 yards per game, and 7.4 yards per pass attempt.  On the road, their defensive numbers get a lot worse.  They allow 44 points per game on 454 yards of offense while their secondary allows an incredible 69.1% completions on 8.6 yards per pass attempt.

Oklahoma’s offense will put-up their best numbers of the season in this game, especially after failing to score a touchdown last week.  Bob Stoops always gets his team to bounce back strong after a loss as the Sooners are 14-7 against the spread in that situation.  With A&M already losing by 26 versus Arkansas in a neutral site game and losing by 48 at Kansas St, we expect a blowout win by Oklahoma tonight.

Don’t miss any additional football picks from Steve, who is currently on a 41-29 run!
