Packers at Vikings Monday Night Football Pick
October 5, 2009
The Green Bay Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings in one of the most anticipated matchups of the year. NFL football betting fans no doubt remember that Brett Favre, he of the miracle pass to Greg Lewis in last week’s Vikings’ victory over the San Francisco 49’ers, played for Green Bay for, oh, a thousand years.
Favre was considered a god in Green Bay until he took his cleats to the New York Jets last year. Now, firmly planted as the starting quarterback for one of Green Bay’s biggest rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, Brett Favre will have ample motivation to go out and take apart the Packers.
The Packers, led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, have been pretty good this year and should pose a stern test for Minnesota’s much bally-hooed defense. The Packers are 2 and 1 ATS which happens to be their record straight up.

Here are a few online betting trends for this game.
* The Green Bay Packers are 7 and 1 ATS in their last 8 games versus an NFC North opponent.
* The Green Bay Packers are 4 and 0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
* The Minnesota Vikings are 0 and 4 against the spread in their last 4 games on turf.
* The Road team is 11 and 3 ATS in the last 14 meetings between these two teams.
All of the trends point to a Green Bay victory ATS and usually I wouldn’t argue that fact as Green Bay have been much better than a lot of football fans have given them credit for.
But two key stats stand out in regards to this game. The first is that Green Bay has given up 14 sacks. That’s the most in the NFL. The second is that Green Bay is allowing roughly 130 yards a game on the ground. That’s quite alarming.
If Green Bay allows Adrian Peterson to get going on the ground, then this game is over. If they can’t protect Aaron Rodgers, then this game is over. To me, the winner against the spread is the team that runs the ball and plays solid defense.
Unfortunately for Green Bay fans, the Packers’ don’t have a solid running game, can’t protect Aaron Rodgers, and give up too many yards on the ground. It won’t be Favre that beats the Packers this Monday night it will be Adrian Peterson.
