Oregon at Stanford Football Predictions
November 7, 2009
One of the best football handicappers in the business is Steve Merril. Last week he hit yet another one of his football picks, this time on the Oregon at Stanford game in which he took the points. He is now 41-29 this year beating the football spreads and will continue to have success beating the books for the rest of the season. Oregon has certainly looked the part over the last six weeks. The Ducks are a perfect 6-0 straight-up and against the spread over the last month and a half, a far cry from their 1-1 straight-up and 0-2 spread mark to open the season. Their last five wins have all come by at least 14 points or more, with their average win being by a whopping 30 points per game. But this is a great spot to play-against Oregon.
Last week, Oregon throttled USC 47-20 while putting-up over 600 yards of offense. That was a primetime national TV game, so it’s only natural for them to have a letdown this week, especially laying points on the road.
Stanford had a bye last week so they are rested and ready while Oregon cannot possibly match their emotion from last week. The Cardinal have been strong at home this season as they are a perfect 4-0 straight-up and against the spread winning by 18 points per game. They have a great running game with Toby Gerhart leading the way. Stanford leads the Pac-10 (along with Oregon) in rushing with over 200 yards per game, and Gerhart himself is # 1 in the conference with close to 1000 yards already.
In last year’s meeting in Eugene, the Cardinal led 28-27 with just about 2 minutes remaining to play in the game. Oregon scored with just 6 seconds left, and that close loss certainly indicates that Stanford will once again give Oregon all they want. Gerhart did not play much in that game as he had a nagging hamstring injury, but he’s healthy here and Stanford will lean on him heavily. Off a week of rest and facing an Oregon team off the huge upset win, Stanford gets the perfect setup to take this game down to the wire. The Cardinal also qualify in a strong 76-34 ATS situation which plays on rested home teams with revenge.
Play STANFORD (+).
