Nebraska’s defense is way too good to be getting points on their home field.  The Cornhuskers are ranked 8th in the nation in total defense as they’ve allowed a grand total of 90 points in their eight games this season.  They permit only 11 points and 266 yards per game (versus teams that average 27 ppg on 386 ypg).

The Cornhuskers beat Baylor last week 20-10, but they led that game 20-0 early in the second quarter before putting it on cruise control.  Baylor’s only touchdown came on an interception return which made Nebraska’s 10-point win a bit misleading.  They now return home off that win and should be ready for a peak performance in Lincoln after losing their previous two home games to Texas Tech and Iowa State.

Oklahoma has been up and down this season.  They are just 5-3 including a 1-3 record away from home.  The Sooners’ offense has normally been solid, but this year that offense has underperformed on the road.  Overall, they average 33 points per game while averaging 424 yards of total offense.  On the road, those numbers fall to just 20 points per game on 314 yards of offense.  And now facing the stout Nebraska defense, there’s no reason to think that Oklahoma’s offense will suddenly breakout in this game.

The Sooners also possess a solid defensive unit.  They only allow 13 points and 277 yards per game (versus teams that average 27 ppg on 354 ypg).  But Nebraska’s numbers are slightly better as shown above.  Points will be at a premium tonight and low-scoring defensive struggles favor the home underdog.
