Football Betting: Missouri vs Kansas State
November 14, 2009
Believe it or not, it’s an important game for who makes the Big 12 Championship when the Missouri Tigers visit Manhattan to take on the Kansas State Wildcats this Saturday. The football spreads show this game as a pick em, with the total listed at 50. Right now Kansas State is in a position where it controls its own destiny in seeking a berth in the Big 12 title game. All the Wildcats have to do is win against Missouri and Nebraska and they’re in. After having to endure the loss of quarterback Josh Freeman, who went in the first round to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this is truly an unlikely and remarkable achievement, and has to get returning coach Bill Snyder some votes for coach of the year.
Snyder took a team that got off to a rather inauspicious start – barely getting by U-Mass, and losing to Louisiana-Lafayette and UCLA to burn college football bettors who backed K-State. I guess a 66-14 loss to Texas Tech was a “character-builder,” because what have followed are three wins in four games, beating Texas A&M 62-14 and scoring a big grudge victory over in-state rival Kansas last week.
Daniel Thomas is the most dangerous offensive weapon on this field. Recruited out of junior college to be a quarterback, he has been a force in the backfield, with five 100-yard games. He had his best day yet against Kansas, with 24 carries for 185 yards. Kansas State’s defensive unit may not be impenetrable, but it is more than adequate (3.5 ypc).
We can’t deny that Blaine Gabbert is capable of putting up big numbers. He had 468 yards last week against Baylor, and that’s his second effort of better than 400 yards on the season. His #1 target, Danilo Alexander, had 13 catches for 214 yards in that game. I like Kansas State’s discipline, and the positive momentum.
There was a USA Today story on Wednesday that talked about Missouri coach Gary Pinkel’s generous compensation package. But hey, Snyder’s got the edge there – he’s got the stadium named after him!
In this pick’em matchup, we’re going with Kansas State in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
