This is a terrible spot for Cincinnati. The Bengals enter this game off back-to-back underdog wins over the Ravens and Steelers. And in fact, the Bengals also won as a home underdog at Chicago four weeks back; one week before their bye. Now they travel out to the West coast and have to play the 2-7 Raiders.
Off three consecutive emotional wins, it will be extremely difficult for Cincinnati to break their ‘A’ game here. The Bengals are playing average football on offense as they are averaging only 22 points per game (versus teams that allow 19 ppg) while averaging 5.3 yards per play (versus teams that allow 5.2 yppl). And their passing game is also average as they throw for 6.6 yards per pass attempt (versus teams that allow 6.3 yppa).
Oakland has not played good football this season, which is obvious. But the Raiders have actually been competitive in three of their last four games. In those three games, they beat the Eagles 13-9 and have two losses by 8 and 6 points. Oakland also had a bye before last week’s game, and the fact that this is their fourth home game over the last six weeks is a good thing.
Cincinnati has played four road games so far this season, and they are a perfect 4-0 straight-up and 3-1 against the spread in those games. But they’ve only been favored in one (-6½ at Cleveland), and all four of those wins have come by 7 points or less. This is a steep number for them to be favored by, even against the lowly Raiders. With a low posted total of 36, points will be at a premium here making the underdog a solid selection.
