I’m taking the points with OAKLAND. The Bengals come in on a roll and with a better record. However, I feel that this will be a tough spot for them. While the Raiders are playing the second of back to back home games, the Bengals are off a huge divisional win and now playing their second road game in two weeks. Playing in that situation, out on the West Coast, I feel that they’re laying too many points here.
Note that the Bengals are 0-3 ATS as favorites this season. Looking back further and we find them at an ugly 4-11 ATS the last 15 times that they were laying points.
The Bengals, who have lost four straight and 13 of 14 road matchups with the Raiders, are dealing with some injuries and they may be starting to “pat themselves on the back” a bit. Even Carson Palmer acknowledged: “It’s scary because everybody’s going to be patting us on the back, telling us how good we are…” That may make it easy to overlook the lowly Raiders.
While its easy to pick on the Raiders, with the exception of their loss to the Jets, they’ve been competitive all month. Three of their last four games have been decided by six points or less. That includes an outright win over the Eagles. I should note that I like the fact that they’ve changed their QB. I expect the Raiders to give the Bengals all they can handle and won’t be at all ‘shocked’ if they score the outright upset. *8 Situational Shocker
