The big rap on Boston College is that they can’t get it done on the road. Indeed, you take a look and they have only covered one of the last five as the visitor in college football sportsbook action. The first time they traveled it was to Clemson, and they gained just 54 net yards in a disgraceful loss. Then it was just 163 yards against Virginia Tech in another tough loss. At Notre Dame they fared a lot better with a cover in the NCAA betting odds, and Dave Shinskie threw for 279 yards, though he got intercepted three times.

The Cavaliers blew a fourth-quarter lead against Duke, and before and after that they were taken to the woodshed by Georgia Tech and Miami, respectively. This is not the way they had envisioned the offense working when the new scheme was installed at the beginning of the year. They are currently ranked #119 in total offense, averaging just 263 yards a game, and they’ve allowed 31 sacks. Jameel Sewell has done no better than 99th in the nation’s pass efficiency ratings, and he sat with a shoulder injury last week against Miami as Mark Verica, from whom he won the job, passed for 75 yards on 29 attempts.

We thought Al Groh might have set the wheels in motion to save his job when the Cavs too three in a row against North Carolina, Indiana and Maryland, allowing just 19 points along the way. Obviously the hot seat is at an unbearable temperature right now. This offense misfires too much, and I just can’t see Virginia putting together enough in the way of fundamentals to make a difference.
