Bad 2009 NFL Teams

This has been a curious season so far in the National Football League to say the least. The sportsbooks can’t seem to makes lines high enough for some of the stronger favorites.

Week seven on October 25th was the roughest of all seven weeks this year for Nevada sportsbooks and could go down as one of the worst of all time. The official Nevada Sportsbook counts were not out as of this article. But when chalk go 10-3-1 against the point spread we acknowledge the bettors have a great day and the books get buried.

By my account the favorites are now in the range of 56% to 58% against the number (not including pushes) on the 2009 pro football season depending on your sportsbooks spreads and when you got in with your bets.

But the question is should bettors trust like most seasons this trend will even out with dogs pulling their weight in the second half of the season. Most years I would say yes, but because of some horrible and completely terrible teams I think the chalk can increase the winning percentage even more.

I’ll start with the St. Louis Rams who are 0-7 and 2-5 against the spread. They have lost two games by getting shut-out and are giving up an average of 30 points per contest. They will be double-digit underdogs in almost every game left this year.

The Oakland Raiders do have two wins this year, but are an awful team and have one of the worst offenses scoring just nine-points per game. The Silver and Black may only be the chalk one time from here on out. They have lost games by 20, 23, 37 and 38 points. This is not a team I can have my cash on no matter how much the oddsmakers give Oakland.

The Tampa Bay Bucs changed head coaches in the off-season letting a solid guy like Jon Gruden go and that has just made things worse. The Bucs are 0-7 and have covered just 1 of 7 games so far. The defense is granting 29 point a game and their offense is scoring just fewer than two touchdowns. Tampa Bay will not be a favorite in any game left on their schedule this season.

The Tennessee Titans fall from grace was a seamless one as they won 13 games a year ago. This year they are falling apart losing all seven of their games while covering just one. They have the worst defense in the league after seven weeks giving up 33-points a game.

On a high-note the biggest surprise of the year is the Denver Broncos sitting at 7-0 and covering every game for their backers. The New Orleans Saints have also been undefeated straight-up and against the spread. The Saints are averaging just less than 40 points per game.
